Instructions for Horses

Hi all...........   :)

Please make sure you understand that this is the Fort Worth STOCKYARDS.....
NOT where the Stock Show is at Will Rogers  !!

There are a few things we need to coordinate.   We have rented the Cowtown Coliseum from early morning on Saturday until 4 pm…….and then we have to be OUT of there BY 5 pm or run the risk of crossing paths with the bulls arriving for the evening rodeo.   NOT !

Here is our schedule on the website :   http://www.gypsyhorsesintexas.com/V2/GypsyHorseExtravaganza-when.htm

ALL horses MUST have a current negative Coggins.  Since a Coggins is good for one year, you can also use this for the Fort Worth Stock Show if you get it shortly.   I will not make you have a health certificate as none of you will arrive with sick horses….or you will be asked to leave anyway.

You should arrive by driving down Exchange Avenue ( see the directions button if you don’t know ).  There is a “driveway/road” just to the East of the Cowtown Coliseum building.  Turn left down that road till you see the space behind the Coliseum.  That is where you will park.  WAIT there till someone guides you in as you will need to park very close and tight so we can all get in there with our trailers.

I will be responsible for check in for vendors AND horses all checking in at the same time, so please try to follow the arrival schedule very closely.   Vendors will take longer to get set up, so they arrive first.   Horses should arrive between 7:45 am and 8:15 am.   If we all work together then this will be easy as you can park right behind the Cowtown Coliseum between that building and Billy Bobs.  But we will have to arrive and park up close and in a tight timeframe to make sure we get off of the road.  This will also make it easier for us to leave as our trailers will be right adjacent to where we are.

There aren’t  “stalls” at this facility.   There are very large panels that are typically holding areas for the rodeo crowd.   This works perfectly well as the horses are easier for the public to see.  And, there are some “rules” for us to be using them.  Please carefully read below :

  1.  Bring your own water buckets and a way to hang them.   When we leave we are NOT ALLOWED TO POUR THE WATER ONTO THE GROUND.  It will make mud for the rodeo livestock and personnel.  So, when we leave we must pour any excess water into the road or down the storm drain.   We will show you when you get there.
  2. You must bring your own shavings.   There is a dirt floor but we don’t want our horses to make wet spots they are standing in.  Bring only a SMALL amount of shavings to dust the dirt with.  Do NOT make deep bedding as again, we are invited guests before the rodeo.  Plus your horses are only there during the day for a few hours.
  3. IF you need or want to come the night before, we have made arrangements for some stalls for $20 per night at the end of the road across the street in “The Livery”.  But they will only hold those stalls IF we book them ahead of time.  Sue Niesen will be spending the night there so they will have some security.  Or, if you want to spend the night or go to dinner or whatever on Saturday after 5 pm, you can also rent the stall ( $20 again ).  Again, we must BOOK IT.
  4. Bring your own hay too.  And don’t put out more than they will eat.
  5. There are NO wash racks here either.   And we will have to move water in the buckets from a hose from Billy Bobs for them to drink.   Bring whatever makes your life easier as far as moving water buckets around.

We also have access to the very nice sand floor riding arena adjacent and very visible to the street that goes down to Billy Bobs.  If you ride, bring your saddle for sure !

This is an old and very historic building.  It is very different than the fancy facilities you may have seen.   Thusly the word “ historic”………….We are very excited to have been given access to this and must be on our best behavior and follow their rules as I would like to use it again maybe next year.  This will be a very fun day.

The doors are open to the public at 9 am.  We will have a brief meeting in the holding area around 8:45 to discuss the plans and the day.

If you want, make a sign telling about your horse.......or.....send me a recent ( and clean ) photo and I'll make one for you.

More soon.
